Henry Paul in action for England in the Sevens World Cup |
Gloucester centre Henry Paul will miss the rest of the season after damaging the medial ligament in his knee. Paul, who suffered the injury playing for England in the Rugby World Cup Sevens, missed the game against London Irish last weekend.
The 31-year-old will see a specialist next week to see if he needs surgery.
"It's a set-back that in some ways sums up our season," said director of rugby Nigel Melville. "We have had so many people injured at crucial periods."
The news is a blow to Gloucester's hopes of clinching third place in the Premiership with just three weeks of the season to go.
However, fly-half Duncan McRae, who has been out since the beginning of February, is set for a return to first-team action.
Paul told Gloucester's official website: "It's a big disappointment.
"I'm concentrating on getting back to full fitness, and will be right behind the rest of the team as we push for the top three slot in the Premiership and next season's Heineken Cup."
