Krige has played his last game for Stormers |
Former Springboks captain Corne Krige is set to join his former coach Alan Solomons at Northampton next season. The controversial flanker will arrive at Franklin's Gardens once his contract commitments in South Africa are over.
Krige's career with the Stormers, who Solomons used to coach, is already over after he was banned for eight weeks for a head-butt during a Super 12 match.
His arrival at Northampton depends on whether he can secure a release from Currie Cup games with Western Province.
South Africa's domestic provincial competition runs from early July to October, meaning Krige may miss the start of the English season in September.
The 29-year-old, who retired from international duty after last year's World Cup, was due to play in Britain for the Barbarians later this month. But English Rugby Football Union disciplinary officer Jeff Blackett ruled that Krige's suspension - handed out by Super 12 officials - should also extend to the Baa-Baas.
Krige has been a notorious figure in England since his antics during South Africa's record 53-3 defeat by England at Twickenham in 2002, when TV cameras highlighted several off-the-ball misdemeanours.
He also labelled England World Cup-winning skipper Martin Johnson "one of the dirtiest captains in world rugby" prior to the 2003 tournament.
Krige captained South Africa 18 times in his 39 Tests.
