Jersey, in red, about to be awarded their penalty try |
Jersey's first National League Two match of 2011 saw them score five tries to Canterbury's two at St Peter. Josh Chamier, David Doherty and a penalty try saw the home side 19-10 up at the break, with Matthew Pinnick scoring for Canterbury. Second-half tries for Toby Clyde-Smith and Ed Dawson ensured Jersey were beyond reach, despite a late consolation for Michael Melford. Jersey maintain second place, still five points behind Ealing Trailfinders. Try-scorer David Doherty, back from injury, feels Jersey are right on track for their continued promotion push. "That was a really important win," he told BBC Jersey. "We want to win the championship and that was that was a good way to go about it. "We're looking forward to the challenge, we're up for it, and hopefully we can do it." Ealing beat Southend 27-0 to stay top of National League Two, still with a five-point advantage over Jersey, who next travel to Bristol to play Dings Crusaders on Saturday, 15 January.
