Worcester Warriors 45-7 Moseley

Adam Black scored his first tries for Warriors after 37 games

Worcester Warriors maintained their lead in the Championship table with a comprehensive 45-7 win over Moseley.

But the visitors made the Warriors work hard for the win with a dogged second-half showing before Worcester wrapped things up with two injury-times tries.

The Warriors started brightly as prop Adam Black powered over from close range with Andy Goode converting.

Marcel Garvey chased on his own kick ahead to fall on the ball over the try line for the Warriors second score.

Goode was in excellent form with the boot as he converted both opening tries and added a penalty as Warriors assumed command.

When Black rumbled over for his second try Goode was again on target with the conversion as Worcester opened out a point-a-minute 24-0 lead.

But Moseley got on the scoresheet before the half-time break when their prop Nathan Williams drove over from close range.

Winger Oliver Williams proved reliable with the boot as converted the try to leave Warriors with a 24-7 half-time lead.

Any thoughts that Moseley would roll over in the second half proved unfounded as the visitors were to frustrate Warriors for long periods of the second half.

They spent at least 10 minutes camped in and around the Worcester 22 but the Warriors defence held firm with the home side eventually breaking out for a well-worked try that ended with Miles Benjamin crossing.

Again Goode showcased his kicking skills with a successful conversion from wide out on the left.

A host of replacements injected vigour into the Worcester attack and they added late tries through Tom Arscott and skipper Kai Horstman, both of which were converted by Joe Carlisle.

Worcester head coach Richard Hill told BBC Hereford and Worcester:
"We got a bit sloppy at the end of the [first] half but I suppose it is natural as with three tries the players were trying to force things.

"We were trying to offload the ball in wet conditions and it wasn't really working so we lost a little bit of our directness.

"The message at half-time was to tighten up a little bit as we were pleased at 24-7 but not 100 percent pleased as we had dropped a couple of high balls and got a bit sloppy.

"The first quarter of an hour [of the second half] was about getting control again and then bringing on the substitutes at that stage."
