Stirling led the Pirates to the British & Irish Cup last season
Cornish Pirates high performance manager Chris Stirling says his side are yet to reach their full potential.
The Pirates are currently third in the Championship, only six points behind league leaders Worcester, having won eight of their 11 games so far.
Stirling told BBC Cornwall: "We're trying a few different things now.
"We're in a position where we can not experiment, but we've got some aspects of our game that we need to develop, so we can focus on those points."
Stirling added: "We need to make sure that when it comes to play-off time we have the complete game.
"If a team attacks us in one area, we need to go and do something else, and that's the difference between being an average team and a good team."
Next up for the Pirates is a trip to London Welsh on Sunday, where they will be hoping to put in a repeat of their 22-3 win at the Mennaye Field in September.
However, Stirling warned that previous results must go out the window this weekend.
"I don't think you can make any comparison between the earlier performance and what we're going to be in for on Sunday," he said.
"The performance down here earlier in the year was a pretty good one from us, and they reckon it was a pretty poor one from them, but it's going to be totally different up there.
"They are a good side and they've got strength right through - especially in the line out."
