Crooks' side are second in National One, one point behind Barking |
Cambridge director of rugby Bob Crooks says his side fully deserved to snatch their late 21-20 win at Launceston. Crooks believed his men had to counter spoiling tactics from the hosts in their National One encounter. He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I would not have liked to have lost that game because of Launceston's approach. "Some of the old school stuff that was going on, that's not part of this game. I'm glad we won for rugby, I'm glad we won for us." The Cornish All Blacks, who have wiped out a 20-point deduction in the league after going into voluntary liquidation before the season started, looked to be heading for the win when they were leading 20-16 in the closing stages. | You can't write us off, you've got to go for 80 minutes against us Cambridge boss Bob Crooks |
But the Blood and Sand fought to the death and Andy Brown's late try sealed a narrow victory for Crooks' side. The Cambridge boss added: "It's character again isn't it? Four minutes to go. Four points down. "You could probably write most sides off. You can't write us off, you've got to go for 80 minutes against us." Meanwhile supporters have raised £100,000 in their bid to save the club from a winding-up order. The East Anglian outfit is set to appear in the High Court on 10 November after it was revealed it owes HM Revenues and Customs £225,000.
