Esher captain Dave Slemen says his side are still getting used to the style of play in the Championship.

The Surrey-based side were promoted last season and sit eighth in the table after eight games of this campaign.

The 32-year-old fly-half told BBC Surrey: "It is tough week-in, week-out, it is physical and the jump is massive.

"It is a bit attritional at times, but so be it. It is great to be in it and it is tough but we're still learning. We've got a long way to go I think."

Esher, who drew 10-10 with Plymouth Albion at the weekend, are next in action on Saturday as they travel to Rotherham.

Slemen added: "We've beaten the teams that are second and fourth so we can play against the better sides.

"I think we will improve. The problem is a lot of the other teams will do as well.

"We always want to do well and keep improving. There's a great feel at the club."
