Esher coach Mike Schmid targets top eight finish

Mike Schmid
Schmid says Esher's next few games will be crucial to their ambitions

Esher Rugby Club head coach Mike Schmid says a top-eight Championship finish is still an attainable target.

Esher have won three and lost three of their first six matches of the season, and are seventh in the table.

Schmid told BBC Surrey: "It's a very ambitious target because you're in among the full-time sides.

"We have to be better. We're going to get there - we're improving week on week. There's room to improve, which is good from a coach's point of view.

He added: "We still haven't put a complete performance together [but] I'd have bitten your hand off to be three and three at this stage of the season.

"Now we go into our next set of games where we've got teams in and around us and below us in the table. We need to make sure our best rugby is being played then."

Esher are away to Birmingham and Solihull on Sunday, 10 October.
