Esher 'imploded' against Nottingham, says Mike Schmid

Esher head coach Mike Schmid says his side "imploded" in their Championship clash at Nottingham.

A hat-trick of tries from Jack Cobden and 20 points from the boot of James Arlidge gave Nottingham a comfortable 40-13 victory on Friday.

Schmid told BBC Surrey: "We didn't help ourselves. We gave away eight penalties in each half and you can't do that against good teams in this league.

"We imploded at key times. We had a lot more endeavour in the second half."

He added: "A little bit of retention and more patience we would have been OK.

"We made a couple of key mistakes at key times that gave them some soft tries but for the most part our defence held strong.

"It's just having the consistency at this level."

Esher's next match is at home to London Welsh on Friday, 1 October.
