Former Gloucester flanker Jake Boer joins Cinderford

Former Gloucester back row forward Jake Boer has joined National League One side Cinderford as player-coach.

The 35-year-old South African was released by the Cherry and Whites in the summer after eight seasons at the club over two spells.

Boer joins primarily as a player but he also has a defensive coaching role.

"I know what he can do and it'll raise the bar for the other players," director of rugby Andy Deacon told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Deacon continued: " It's exciting times for Cinderford, what with us spending a lot of money improving the ground.

"Signing the likes of Jake Boer will not only improve the brand of rugby but get more people through the turnstiles, which from a commercial viewpoint is what we want."
