Cambridge boss Bob Crooks says his side are desperate to get their first taste of rugby ahead of the new season.

The National One campaign kicks off in September but Crooks' men host Moseley on Saturday and the Cambridge chief cannot wait for the action to begin.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "You can only train so much without a game. They've been doing really well and everything's been positive.

"But we just need to play and to hit someone in a different coloured shirt."

Supporters will be hoping to get a peek at a few new recruits, including fly-half Phil Ellis, lock Ien Ascroft, prop Mark George and winger Jaco Du Toit.

We haven't got a very big squad so there's not going to be too many changes within it

But Crooks will not be giving away any hints about who will be in his starting 15 for the first competitive game against Sedgley Park.

"I wouldn't read too much into it regarding the league team," he said.

"Although, we haven't got a very big squad so there's not going to be too many changes within it.

"So you could see one or two of the youngsters come off the bench to see where they are."
