Robbie Shaw was injured in April |
Bristol scrum half Robbie Shaw will miss the early part of the new Championship season while he recovers from a knee injury. The 26-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament before the play-off clash with Cornish Pirates in April. Confirmation of Shaw's absence means that Bristol have only Sam Alford on their books as a recognised scrum half. The club have lost the experience of New Zealander Jason Spice, who had his contract cancelled by mutual consent. Bath-born Alford, who joined Bristol from Cornish All Blacks, has started just three senior games. Bristol, who lost the play-off final to Exeter Chiefs in May, begin the Championship campaign at home to Rotherham on 28 August.
