Dawe led Albion to eighth in the Championship last term

Plymouth Albion chairman of rugby Graham Dawe is hopeful of signing Launceston number eight Sam Hocking.

Dawe has targeted the 25-year-old as he builds his squad for next season's Championship campaign.

Dawe told BBC Sport: "I am very hopeful that Sam will join the squad, although nothing has been confirmed.

"I'm targeting a couple of other players as well, but at the moment we're just really pleased with the players we've already got."

Hocking spent a brief period on loan at Brickfields from Launceston earlier this year.

The majority of Albion's squad have re-signed in recent weeks, with 27-year-old prop Martin Rice the latest.

Dawe also hopes to confirm the signing of Canadian back-row Aaron Carpenter in the coming weeks.

He said: "Aaron will be a Plymouth Albion player next season assuming we can get the paperwork completed, as we need a work permit before we can go any further."

Carpenter, 27, spent last season at Coventry in the Championship and is a member of the Canada national squad.
