Rowe looking forward to European rugby

Exeter Chiefs chief executive Tony Rowe has defended the increase in ticket prices at Sandy Park next season.

With Exeter set to play in the Premiership for the first time in their history, Grandstand season tickets have almost doubled from £280 to £540.

Rowe told BBC Spotlight: "We laboured long and hard over the prices before we issued them but it costs a lot of money to operate in the Premiership.

"The season ticket is for 20 European and Premiership games."

He added "We're in Europe and we're in the Premiership and that costs a lot of money, so we believe it's excellent value for money."

The £540 supporters will pay for a ticket in the Grandstand at Sandy Park is £45 more than the price of of equivalent seats at Welford Road, the home of Leicester, who are the current Guinness Premiership champions.

Having been promoted from the Championship after beating Bristol in the play-off final last month, Exeter have been drawn against French clubs Bourgoin and Montpellier as they make their European bow in the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Rowe said: "We're very pleased as it's a favourable draw. We're looking forward to it.

"We're really excited about Premiership rugby and European rugby at Sandy Park at long last, so we'll give it a go, see how we get on and do our best."
