David Blaney last played for Bristol in the defeat by Moseley in March |
Bristol have been boosted by the news that hooker David Blaney should be fit for Friday's home Championship play-off semi-final against London Welsh. The 31-year-old former Leinster player has been out for almost eight weeks with a groin problem. Bristol coach Paul Hull must decide whether to recall Blaney or to keep faith with youngster Ollie Hayes. "He [Blaney] has been very focused and driven to get back and available for this match," Hull told BBC Bristol. "We're really pleased and the medical team have been outstanding," added Hull. Blaney's injury required surgery and Bristol were then hit further when first-choice hooker Ross Johnston suffered a broken leg. That led to 20-year-old Hayes being given his Championship debut in last Saturday's thumping 60-15 victory away to Cornish Pirates. Hayes made a good impression during that success. "We've got a good bunch of academy players and Ollie is one of them who have shown the potential that they can go far," added Hull. "We'll keep our feet on the ground with this but he's done extremely well - as other players have. "I'm really pleased with his development and he will feature in a big game - the next biggest game of his career. It's important for him and important for the club."
