Plymouth Albion missed two late penalties as they went down to a narrow 10-9 defeat by Bedford in their opening Pool A play-off match. Three penalties from fly-half Kieran Hallet had put Albion 9-3 in front at half-time, with James Pritchard kicking the points for Bedford. Albion failed to increase their lead after the break and were punished by a Paul Tupai try on 72 minutes. James Pritchard subsequently converted to put Bedford 10-9 in front. Albion's Alex Davies then saw two penalty attempts go narrowly wide in the dying moments as Bedford held on for the win. Albion play local rivals Cornish Pirates in round two of the play-offs next Sunday.
