On-loan Leeds striker David Somma scored twice as Lincoln extended their unbeaten run to five games.
The South African opened the scoring from close range after nine minutes before Torquay skipper Nicky Wroe equalised with a deflected strike.
Cian Hughton converted Somma's pass to restore Lincoln's lead after the break.
Somma claimed his second by rounding home keeper Scott Bevan after central defender Mark Ellis slipped, while Chris Zebroski notched a consolation.
Torquay United manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Devon:
"It is one we certainly should have got something out of, we gifted Lincoln the game today and it is unlike us.
"It is frustrating and we believed that we were not only going to get back on level terms but win the game.
"It has been a story of missed of missed chances all season, and you saw it again today we had some unbelievable chances at the end."
