Hereford in comeback win but Malvern suffer hefty loss

Hereford are three points behind local rivals Luctonians

Hereford snatched a remarkable 18-16 victory at Kettering in National Three Midlands on Saturday.

Hereford started poorly and were 16-0 down at half-time after prop Ben Hillstead was yellow carded.

The second half saw a transformation as Dean Powell kicked a penalty before Keiron Hallam crossed near the corner.

Powell added another three points and lock Jamie Bullock capped an excellent performance by charging over for a try as Powell converted for a narrow win.

Meanwhile Malvern were blitzed 53-0 by in-form Ampthill at Spring Lane.

Ampthill made light of a recent 10-point deduction, imposed for cancelling a game, against a spirited young Malvern side.

Malvern director of Rugby David Robins told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "Whilst we can't complain about losing to a well-drilled side, which has the benefit of former Worcester coach Clive Griffiths, the result didn't reflect the effort the lads put in.

"Matt Humphreys was outstanding and my man of the match for his non-stop performance in three different positions."
