Meadow Lane deal helps future plans - Delaney

Nottingham director of rugby Glenn Delaney believes the long-term deal to play the club's home matches at Meadow Lane will help attract new players.

A seven-year contract was agreed with Notts County owner Ray Trew on Tuesday.

Delaney told BBC East Midlands Today: "It's the best stadium in our league by a long way and better than most Premiership grounds.

"Now we can actually say that we're here for the long term, it's a great attraction for players to come."

A groundsharing agreement had been in place since 2006 but Nottingham were told that they were no longer welcome at Meadow Lane by previous County owners Munto in July.

However the dispute has been settled following the arrival of Trew, who recognised that the deal would secure financially-troubled County some much-needed revenue.

"We now know this will be our home for the next seven years and hopefully our relationship will build from here," continued Delaney.

"The fans of both clubs have been on a tough roller-coaster over the past six to nine months.

"Our fans can now sit in their seats, drink their pints, enjoy their rugby and feel as though this is home."

Nottingham chairman Alistair Bow added: "Investment coming into Nottingham has dropped compared to the previous year and that was largely due to the fact that we couldn't tell where we would be playing.

"It was very difficult to entice investors into a club when you haven't got a ground to play at.

"We weren't welcome here at all and the best thing to do is put the past behind us."
