Notts County's new manager Steve Cotterill says he would have taken the job even if the club had gone into administration this week.

The 45-year-old has taken charge of the Magpies until the end of the season.

And Cotterill told BBC East Midlands Today: "Even if we did go in administration I still thought there was a chance of making the play-offs.

"It was going to be a tall order but while there was a chance of it(promotion), it was worth accepting."

The threat of Notts going into administration was brought to an end on Tuesday when new owner Ray Trew settled an unpaid tax bill and pledged to pay off the club's £6.7m debt.

Cotterill added: "The chairman and chief executive have been unbelievably professional."

Trew, meanwhile, said he was happy to buy the club, despite its huge debts, to prove a point.

He said: "I'm in it for my enjoyment and I have a point to prove to the football community that I think football clubs can be run on a financial sound footing.

"We intend doing that here at Notts County."
