Hammond is aiming for a top-eight finish

Nottingham picked up their first win in five Championship games with a 30-15 victory over Moseley at Meadow Lane.

Two tries from Billy Twelvetrees and one apiece from Luke Sheriff and Ben Johnston saw Nottingham pick up a crucial bonus point after a barren run.

Captain Craig Hammond told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We've got to keep this momentum going over Christmas.

"It's all about getting into the top eight this season. If we can get a few more wins, we'll probably be there."

Going into Sunday's tie Nottingham had not won a league game since October with the club only picking up two cup wins in their previous six matches.

It did not take long for Nottingham to get off the mark as fly-half Tim Taylor landed a penalty in the fourth minute.

Nottingham looked threatening and decisive in the opening exchanges but the positive start faded as a number of mistakes crept into their performance.

Hammond said: "When we start well, we think it's going to be easy and take our foot off the accelerator. If we had kept up our good performance through the first half, we could have had a bonus point before half time."

However, in the 10th minute Nottingham put together a number of good phases and Luke Sheriff burrowed over the line out of a ruck.

Three minutes later Nottingham's latest loan signing Billy Twelvetrees scored in the corner to extend the Green and Whites' lead.

The try marked an mixed afternoon for the young Leicester Tigers player who scored two tries but also made too many simple handling errors.

As the second half progressed, Nottingham failed to take control, relying on heroic last-ditch tackling and basic errors from Moseley to keep the visitors tryless for the day.

However, veteran centre Ben Johnston, returning from six weeks out injured, crossed the line in the 58th minute after another line break from Tim Taylor, finally easing the nerves of Nottingham fans.

Nottingham director of rugby Glenn Delaney said: "Ben showed some of the touches that took him into the England team. And he's the go-to guy in our back line and leads incredibly well."

Nottingham's bonus point was cemented with the last play of the game as Twelvetress crossing for his second try of the game.
