Molin was a firm favourite during his two-year stay at Panthers |
Nottingham Panthers edged out Hull Stingrays on penalties on Sunday night to record back-to-back weekend wins. Returning Swedish forward Johan Molin was the hero with the crucial shootout winner after a thrilling 3-3 draw in normal time. Stingrays hit back three times to force the extra period, including a controversial third equaliser which was only awarded after a lengthy delay. Corey Neilson put Panthers ahead with Molin and Cameron Mann also on target. Mann's strike in the final period after some fine build-up looked like it would be the winner. But the Stingrays had other ideas and forced Panthers to go all the way to claim the win. On Saturday night an injury-hit Panthers side secured a gritty 3-2 victory away against Newcastle Vipers. Jason Tejchma put the hosts ahead but goals from Mario Larocque levelled matters and power-play strikes from Marc Levers and Sean McAslan established a two-goal advantage going into the final 10 minutes. Vipers pulled a goal back through Matus Petricko but the visitors held on to win.
