Exeter Chiefs have strengthened their pack with the signing of Irish lock David Gannon from New Zealand side Southland Stags. Gannon, 26, joined the Stags from Irish club Connacht at the end of last season, has also played for Ireland A. Chiefs coach Rob Baxter said: "He gives us extra cover in an area where we are relatively light on options. "He has a lot of big-game experience and joins us off the back of a successful New Zealand Cup campaign." Gannon believes the chance to join up with the Chiefs, who are currently riding high at the top of the Championship, was too good an opportunity to miss. "It's going to take a lot of work to get into the team. I need to get my match fitness up to try and add to what the guys have already been doing this year." The Chiefs host Coventry in the Championship at Sandy Park on Saturday.
