Exeter Chiefs went down to their first defeat of the season on Friday, losing away at Newport in the group stages of the British & Irish Cup.

Both teams scored two tries apiece, but three penalties from Newport's Chris Wannell helped the home side secure a narrow victory.

Exeter's tries came through Nic Sestaret and Michael Stubble, with Danny Gray converting both.

Newport's tries were both scored by Gareth Wyatt.
