Robins is looking for line-out improvement |
Malvern director of rugby Dave Robins was not impressed by his side in the 10-10 draw with Kettering. The Worcestershire side came from behind to claim a draw as both sides struggled with the Kettering heat. Robins told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "We were pretty awful in the line-out, which meant we didn't have much of a platform to work from. "This meant we were putting ourselves on the back foot too much and letting Kettering dictate play. "However, they are a much improved side from last season and have already shown they will be tough to beat, so we go back to the training field satisfied with the draw and ready to work on a few areas of improvement." After a scrappy opening, Kettering won a scrum and the ball was popped to winger Cory Rainbow, who left the Malvern defence flat-footed to run in a try. The home side failed to stretch the lead when they missed a penalty and Malvern pegged back three points when Andy Longley punished an indiscretion. Kettering were looking more comfortable and had a purple patch on the hour mark, a good interposing movement setting up a second try, although the conversion miss was to prove costly for them. With 10 minutes left, a long kick deep into Kettering territory was chased up, the clearance found Tom Beechey, and he went a powerful run through the home defence to score under the posts. Longley equalising the scores with the conversion.
