Cox stumped Marcus Trescothick for his first victim |
Teenage wicketkeeper Ben Cox is back at school this week after a dream debut for Worcestershire against Somerset. The 17-year-old resumes his studies at Bromsgrove School as Steve Davies is set to recover from an ankle injury. Cox hit 61 in his debut innings but director of cricket Steve Rhodes says he will have to get back down to earth. "It's a case now of him going back to school and making sure he gets a good education - his dad will tell you that," Rhodes said. "He's not only come through our academy, but he's a local lad as well, we did it with Steve Davies, and we can do it with Ben." | It's a credit to them, it puts them on the map and it's important for them. If it helps sell a few places for Bromsgrove School, then happy days for them |
Davies will leave New Road to join Surrey at the end of the season. But Rhodes says he will play in the last two games against Durham in the County Championship and Sussex in the Pro40. "Should Steve be fit he will play, he is a professional keeper. He may be leaving, but we have not fallen out with him," he said. "Should we need Ben for an emergency the school are happy to see him play. "It's a credit to them, it puts them on the map and it's important for them. "If it helps sell a few places for Bromsgrove School, then happy days for them." Worcestershire play champions Durham at New Road in a four-day County Championship game starting on Wednesday at 1030 BST. They then take on Sussex at New Road in the Pro40 on Sunday at 1245 BST. There will be full ball-by-ball commentary on both games on BBC Hereford and Worcester on 738 AM and online.
