Redruth were defeated at home by unbeaten National One leaders Esher on Saturday despite outscoring the visitors by three tries to two.
Lewis Vinnicombe, Craig Bonds and Brett Stroud crossed the line for the Reds but they could not recover from a 20-5 half-time deficit.
Shawn Renwick and Rod Turner scored tries for Esher, with Neil Taylor adding a drop goal.
Meanwhile Esher's Sam Ulph kicked two penalties and two conversions.
Esher team manager Dave Page told BBC Surrey he was pleased with his side's victory but knows they need to improve.
"It's a tough place to come to at any time of the year," he said. "I don't think we've ever taken anyone lightly in this league. We didn't play well, we gave a lot of penalties away.
"At half-time maybe we thought it was a bit easy and allowed Redruth back into it. The players now know where they are in the pecking order and they've got to progress from this.
"I think any team that comes to Redruth and goes away with something has done well, believe me, but I don't think we played very well at all and we've got a lot to learn.
"They've had a good win [against Launceston] and it's going to be a tough game [against London Scottish] next week. They're certainly going to be gunning for us now."
