Launceston claimed the bragging rights in the first Cornish derby of the new National One season by beating Redruth at Polson Bridge on Saturday. The Cornish All Blacks had a 20-0 lead at the break thanks to two Kieron Lewitt tries with fly-half Tony Yapp adding the extras. In the second period a Craig Bonds try started a Reds comeback, with Owen Hambly also scoring shortly afterwards. But the All Blacks secured the win with a late try from Sam Hocking.
Launceston head coach Jon Hill told BBC Spotlight: Hill annoyed by second-half performance "The first 10 minutes in the second half was always going to be key, but the disappointing thing for me was that I thought we played really poorly. "I thought we played too much rugby and we made some wrong decisions in behind and let them back into the game. "We lapsed in concentration at key times and the key men that you would hope would play rugby in the right areas weren't there." Redruth director of rugby Nigel Hambly told BBC Spotlight: Mistakes cost us dearly - Hambly "I'm a little bit disappointed, it was good for the spectator, but not quite so great for the coach. "We could have capitulated in the second half, but in typical Redruth style we kept fighting. "They looked dangerous every time on the break and I thought we slacked off for 10 minutes in the game and that's probably what cost us in the end."
