Spice played once for the All Blacks, coming off the bench in 2001 |
Bristol have named Kiwi scrum-half Jason Spice as their playing captain for the 2009/10 season. Spice, 34, joined Bristol earlier this summer from Cardiff Blues, who he helped to EDF Cup success last season. "Its a huge honour to have been offered the position and I certainly didn't think twice about accepting," he said. Spice began his career in his homeland and played Super 12 rugby before moving to Wales in 2004 to join the Ospreys and then the Blues in 2007. Bristol head coach Paul Hull said: "Jason has all the attributes required of a playing captain. He is very much a team player on and off the field. "His experience in the sport, his professional attitude, and his own rugby abilities all contributed towards the decision." Bristol have already named second-rower Roy Winters as their club captain. The 33-year-old, who is due to start his fifth season at the Memorial Stadium, will have responsibility for off-field matters.
