Velicka signed for City from Rangers over the weekend
Bristol City's on-loan striker Andrius Velicka is out for the season after suffering a serious knee injury just five minutes into his debut.
The 30-year-old damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in the 1-0 win against QPR on Tuesday after signing on a season-long loan from Rangers.
A Bristol City spokesman said it was too early to determine if Velicka would return to Scotland for treatment.
Manager Gary Johnson said: "We're absolutely gutted for Andrius."
"This was a new start for him. He'd brought his family down. It's a terrible injury for a professional footballer.
The injury marred an impressive win for City, which came courtesy of Nicky Maynard's third goal in as many games.
Johnson added: "I thought the first half was absolutely magnificent, and we played some great stuff. We were only a goal or two short of it being a wonderful 45 minutes.
"I enjoyed it, the crowd enjoyed it and the lads enjoyed it."
