Baxter is the Chiefs' record appearance holder |
Richie Baxter has relinquished his role as the captain of Exeter Chiefs ahead of next season in the Championship. The number eight played 285 times for the club, which makes him the Chiefs' record appearance holder. During his tenure as captain, Baxter, 31, took Exeter to two National Trophy finals and two second-place finishes in National One. The Sandy Park club are expected to announce Baxter's successor as captain on Wednesday morning. Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter thanked his brother for his commitment to the club as captain. Baxter said: "Richie has achieved probably the best win-loss ratio of any long-term captain and has always been an example of the attributes we are looking for in Exeter players. "I would describe him as one of the players that glues our team together and drives us over the gain line. It is only when you analyse match video that you really see how much work he does."
