Coventry have made Newport Gwent Dragons centre James Lewis their first summer signing on a two-year deal.

The 21-year-old, who was in the Dragons' Magners League squad, has represented Wales Sevens 18 times.

He told the club website: "I cannot wait to be playing in the Championship and furthering my career."

Director of rugby Phil Maynard said: "I am impressed that he is putting a hold on his Premiership Sevens career to concentrate on his 15-a-side game."

Lewis is the son of former Welsh Rugby Union boss Steve Lewis and twin brother Rob, a scrum-half, has also left the Dragons, joining London Welsh.

Meanwhile, Coventry have been drawn in Pool B of the inaugural British & Irish Cup, with Bristol, Heriot's, Munster, Neath and Nottingham.
