Zander de Bruyn was the star turn at Taunton again as Somerset ended their Twenty20 hoodoo against Warwickshire with a five-wicket win.

Somerset had never previously beaten the Bears in this competition in seven previous attempts.

And they faced a tall order chasing a Bears total of 187-5 built around Jim Troughton's 50 and an unbeaten 49 from skipper Ian Westwood.

But de Bruyn hit 72 as Somerset reached their target with two balls to spare.

The Bears' innings was built around two big partnerships.

Trott (42 in 24 balls) and Troughton (50 off 29) put on 80 for the second wicket before collapsing to 104-5.

Skipper Westwood, with an unbeaten 49, comfortably his best in Twenty20, then put on 83 with Ant Botha (35no) to reach a competitive 187-5.

But de Bruyn hit two sixes and seven fours in his match-winning 72 in 44 balls, chiefly in a third-wicket stand of 66 with Jimmy Hildreth.

The South African all-rounder holed out before the end, but the experience of home skipper Justin Langer saw his side to a second successive win and leadership in the Midlands/West/Wales Group.

Both counties now go into Friday night local derby action, Somerset against Gloucestershire at Taunton (1730 BST) and the Bears against the Pears of Worcestershire at Edgbaston (1730 BST).

Warwickshire captain Ian Westwood told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"Defending here you need to take your chances.

"When we did get it in the right area we missed those chances and were a bit sloppy in the field.

"We gave away too many twos, fumbled the ball a lot and dropped a couple more catches.

"We've got to put those things right if we want to defend totals in one-day cricket."
