Greening worked as assistant coach with the England Sevens team

Former England hooker Phil Greening has joined Championship side London Welsh as assistant coach.

The former Wasps and Gloucester front row had been working as an advisor with the Exiles since February but has now agreed a full-time position.

The 33-year-old, who retired with a bad foot injury in 2005, said: "I'm delighted to have the opportunity.

"It'll be a great learning curve for me to work alongside coach Danny Wilson and I'm really excited."

He added: "It's a club where I can bring my own style along with lessons I have learned from players and coaches such as Clive Woodward, Warren Gatland, Sean Edwards, John Mitchell and Mike Friday."

Greening won 24 England caps during his career, was in the squad for the 1999 World Cup in Wales and was a member of the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia in 2001.

His career was brought to an end in October 2005 after he sustained a serious foot injury in Wasps' 2005 Guinness Premiership final win over Leicester.
