Elliott wants aggressive Surrey

Surrey all-rounder Grant Elliot says the team will play an aggressive form of cricket in the Twenty20 Cup.

Elliott, 30, will line-up for the Browncaps on Monday against Middlesex in the opening match of the tournament.

Elliott told BBC London 94.9: "We want to play an aggressive style of cricket and if momentum goes our way we could get on a really good roll.

"What I really like about the Surrey squad at the moment is there are the experienced guys that you can draw on."

He added: "(Both) within the management team as well as the guys we're playing with. So you've got that mix of youth and experience and I think it is a great mix and I'm very excited to see how we'll be doing in the Twenty20.

South African born Elliott has played in three Tests and 21 one-day internationals for New Zealand but only featured in one Twenty20 match for his country.

Monday's clash with Middlesex is the first of five matches in the tournament's first phase before the County Championship resumes.

"If we can get the momentum going we can dominate those five games, that's what we want to do," Elliott said.

"I'm really looking forward to it, we've had a relatively successful one-day run.

"We started looking like we are gaining some momentum and this is where Twenty20 cricket started in England so packed crowds and exciting cricket and we're looking to produce our own entertaining style."

Surrey fast bowler Andre Nel says he will be sticking to a clear game plan to help him take wickets upfront in this season's Twenty20.

The South African, 31, told BBC London 94.9: You've got to be clear with your game plan which is what I'm going to do.

"I'm just going to go out there and try to take wickets upfront and be smart with what I do and stick to my basics."

Nel is looking forward to being a part of the excitement that Twenty20 generates around the country.

"I think everybody gets excited with Twenty20. The crowds come in, it's exciting for players, a bit of music, it's exciting times," he added.

"It's hard for the bowlers but it's also a test of the skills of the bowler so we're looking forward to it."
