Thirlby has top-flight experience with Saracens, Gloucester and Bath |
Moseley have signed experienced back Rob Thirlby from Redruth ahead of their inaugural Championship campaign. The 30-year-old can play at full-back or on the wing and has represented England on the sevens circuit. The arrival of the former Saracens, Gloucester and Bath player partly compensates for the retirement of Andy Binns after 14 seasons with the club. "Rob is a player who will add value to our squad in terms of experience and quality," said Moseley coach Ian Smith. "With Andy Binns' retirement he will increase competition for the full-back position, while he can also play on the wing where his pace will be a threat." In 2004, Thirlby was the joint top try-scorer in the International Rugby Board's sevens series, sharing that honour with South Africa's Fabian Juries after both players ran in 35 tries. He has spent the last two seasons in National League Two with Redruth, his hometown club, who recently missed out on promotion, finishing third behind Birmingham & Solihull and Cambridge.
