The Trophy win at Twickenham was the highlight of Moseley's season |
Moseley's trophy-winning season has come to a premature end after Saturday's opponents Otley pulled out of their National One game. The Yorkshire club were struggling to raise a team because of the large number of players away on county duty. The RFU and FDR have agreed that no further sanctions will be taken against Otley and awarded Moseley the game. If the decision is ratified, the points will take the Billesley Common club into the top half of the table. Moseley's final four league fixtures all had to be rescheduled due to a backlog caused by postponements and their unexpected run to Twickenham, where they beat Leeds Carnegie in the final of the National Trophy. Otley are one of five teams relegated from National One as the second tier of English rugby is being thinned down to 12 clubs. "Moseley Rugby Club has always been quite prepared to play this fixture but we fully understand Otley's decision to cancel the game," said the Birmingham-based club's director of rugby John Beale. "We wish the Otley club and its players well for next season."
