Taylor said the travelling fans played a massive part in the Trophy win |
Moseley captain Gareth Taylor believes the club's EDF Energy National Trophy win was the culmination of years of hard work at Billesley Common. They upset National One champions Leeds Carnegie 23-18 at Twickenham, 27 years on from their last major final. "It's fantastic, it's taken seven or eight years of hard work to get the club to where it is today," Taylor told BBC WM after lifting the Trophy. "It's great, not just for the team, but for the fans as well." More than 2,000 Moseley supporters clad in red and black travelled to Twickenham with the club sending 18 coach-loads from their home ground, and Taylor says they made their presence felt. | The crowd got us through the last 20 and we managed to come out winning Moseley skipper Gareth Taylor |
"It made a massive difference - Leeds are a full-time team, they're going to be putting us under pressure in the last 20 minutes, but the crowd got us through the last 20 and we managed to come out winning," said the 29-year-old teacher from Solihull. "We just got a couple of tries in front, and that's how it stayed pretty much right until the end when they crossed the line." Moseley now need to concentrate on survival in the current National One league. They lie fifth from bottom with the five lowest-ranked teams being relegated from the renamed Championship league next season. The Birmingham side trail Esher, who are above them in 11th place, by four points but have three games in hand on them.
