Cornish Pirates have won a 2009 Rugby Football Union President's XV award for encouraging more volunteers to get involved in the club. They were recognised in the 'more volunteers' category after running a media campaign to promote an open evening for parents. Following the event, 20 new volunteers signed up. The awards recognise the work being carried out across the country at the grassroots level of the game. RFU president Brian Williams said: "It's an honour to be able to highlight the outstanding work done by thousands of volunteers to make the game flourish." The awards were decided by a panel of judges which included Williams, England's most capped played Jason Leonard and Rugby World editor Paul Morgan.
