National One side Cornish Pirates have confirmed that top try scorer Marika Vakacegu will join Premiership club the Sale Sharks this summer. The 27-year-old versatile Fiji international will play his last game for the Pirates against London Welsh. Team-mate Iva Motusaga will also be leaving this summer, to return to his native Australia. The Pirates are re-signing scrum-half Gavin Cattle and full-back or wing West Davies to make up for the blow. Cattle, who joined the Pirates from Rotherham in 2004, returns after playing two seasons for Llanelli Scarlets. The 29-year-old is held in high esteem at the club, as he captained the Cornish Pirates side that lifted the EDF Energy National Trophy at Twickenham in April 2007. | We are delighted with our two new signings, both being proven performers at this level Cornish Pirates chief executive Rod Coward |
Davies, 31, who first signed for the Pirates from Worcester back in July 2004, will return from Doncaster for the new season. Pirates chief executive Rod Coward said: "We are delighted with our two new signings, both being proven performers at this level, who bring a wealth of experience to the club. "At the same time we regret the departure of Marika and Iva, two great players and good guys. We wish them every success for the future and trust they will always retain fond memories of their time at the Pirates."
