Harrogate looking to the future

Rugby ball and posts

Harrogate Rugby Union club's plans for next season are well underway with four games of this year still to be played.

The club will not be promoted this year but they have been one of National Three North's top sides.

Coach Mike Aspinall told BBC Radio York they want to strengthen the team and go one better next year.

"The average age of the side is young so if Harrogate can keep these guys interested then the future's bright and that's great," he said.

"We've been getting organised behind the scenes probably earlier than what we have in previous seasons.

"We've started early looking to strengthen. With the financial climate the way it is there are clubs out there that are struggling and myself and the other coaches have been looking around to try and strengthen.

"But the main thing for us is to keep the majority of the squad together which we have done and really push on from there.

"The league will be a bit tougher next year with more teams coming down from National League Two but ultimately I think we want to be sort of round about the same position next year.

"Challenging at the top is where every club wants to be."
