Exeter Chiefs' last remaining hopes of making promotion to the Guinness Premiership were extinguished by the 35-21 lose to Rotherham Titans. Rotherham fly-half Mike Whitehead scored 25 points for his side including four penalties and a conversion of Errie Claassens' try in the first half. Chiefs had a 34th-minute try disallowed for an Alan Miller forward pass. Slade, Miller and Baxter scored tries but Kevin Maggs's try for Rotherham was converted by Whitehead. Chiefs have two games remaining to finish the season against Otley and Doncaster Knights.
