Jackson shines in Baa-Baas romp

Nottingham's David Jackson scored a debut hat-trick as Glenn Delaney's Barbarians thrashed Bedford in a thrilling Mobbs Memorial match.

The Green and Whites' director of rugby was in charge of the Baa-Baas for the first time as they romped to a 76-45 win at Goldington Road on Tuesday.

Jackson lined up with Nottingham team-mates Luke Sherriff, Joe Duffey and Craig Hammond, who captained the side.

And they helped the Barbarians run in 12 tries in a free-flowing game.

Delaney was delighted to be able to put on a feast of attacking rugby: "Everything we did was about attack," he told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"We scored some wonderful tries and the majority of them were scored by the outsides including David Jackson."

Delaney's men ran in four tries in the opening ten minutes.

Jackson's first was a superb solo effort and his second came after a mazy run from his own 22 after collecting a pass from former Wales centre Hal Luscombe.

And Luscombe was again the provider for Jackson's hat-trick.

Jackson said: "I have always dreamed of playing for the Barbarians and to score a hat-trick on my debut is unbelievable.

"I am very grateful for having the opportunity to play for such a famous club and in such a prestigious game.

"It obviously made it easier knowing Glenn and the Nottingham boys but I thought everyone gelled really well, considering we only met at lunchtime, and we played some exciting rugby.

"There was plenty of noise coming from the Green Army (Nottingham's travelling supporters) and we all really appreciate them coming down to support us."

The match was played in honour of Lt Col Edgar Mobbs, the former England, Northampton, East Midlands, Olney and Bedford Modern School wing, who was killed leading an assault on an enemy machine gun post at Passchendale in July 1915.
