Bergin scored 66 points in 61 games this season |
Kevin Bergin has become the second player in a week to agree a new deal with the Nottingham Panthers. The French Canadian, who won the club's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award this season, joins Bruce Richardson on the roster for the 2009/10 campaign. Bergin told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I feel so settled in the city and love playing for the club, so there was never any doubt I wanted to come back. "We came close to winning last season and still have unfinished business." | He knows where the net is, has great vision and can play powerplay and penalty kill. He fights and I can also use him on defence. Panthers coach Corey Neilson |
Bergin joined the Panthers in 2007 from EHC Chur in Switzerland, after previously playing a season in Basingstoke. Despite not spending a full year in the UK, the French-Canadian won the Elite League's Fans Favourite award. He also helped Panthers win the Challenge Cup with a two-legged victory over Sheffield, scoring a hat-trick in the first leg. Panthers coach Corey Neilson added: "Kevin is an excellent hockey player and fully deserved his MVP award this year. "He knows where the net is, has great vision and can play powerplay and penalty kill. He fights and I can also use him on defence. "He is a huge favourite in the dressing room and I'm delighted he's coming back for another season."
