Liskeard-Looe have given a life ban to the person responsible for putting offensive material in their programme. The club was fined £2,500 by the RFU after admitting two charges related to publishing racist and offensive jokes. In a statement the club said the programme was made by an independent third party and not by the club. "The person responsible for this material has been banned for life from having any further association with the Club," the statement said. The programme was published by the club for their EDF Junior Vase semi-final with Lowestoft and Yarmouth which they won, seeing them book a place at Twickenham next month. But the club accepted that they were responsible for the content, even though they did not write it. The statement continued: "The club were not aware of its contents prior to distribution. We fully accept that it was our responsibility to review any such material before it was distributed. | The club wishes to make it clear that they do not in any way share or condone the views that were expressed in this material |
"The club wishes to make it clear that they do not in any way share or condone the views that were expressed in this material. "We were shocked and disgusted by the contents and launched a full internal investigation upon discovery of the material," the statement, which is the first public comment over the matter from the club, went on to say. It also said the club was proud of the diversity amongst its players and members. "During the long history of the club it has enjoyed the service of a number of overseas and UK players from various cultures and nationalities. "These individuals have contributed not only to the game, but the ethos of the club as a whole."
