Cornish Pirates have confirmed fly-half Jonny Bentley and lock Mike Myerscough are to join the National One side.

New Zealander Bentley, 22, began his career at Hutt Old Boys Marist RFC and recently had a spell playing in Japan.

Bentley has been coached by Chris Stirling, who is returning to Cornwall in the summer to take up a role as high performance manager.

Cornishman Myerscough, who is also 22, is joining the Pirates from the National Two club Launceston.

Myerscough started playing rugby with the Bude minis at the age of six and as a teenager was spotted by Martin Haag and Frank Butler, who invited him to join the Bath England academy.

He went on to play for England Under-18s and Under-19s.

Pirates chief executive Rod Coward said he was pleased with the signings.

"This is the start of how we want to build for the future with young, talented players with great potential," he said.

"It is essential that we establish a sound base upon which to build and develop."
