Steve Winn got a consolation try for Cornish Pirates at Meadow Lane

Cornish Pirates missed out on the chance to face Duchy rivals Mounts Bay in the quarter-finals of the National Trophy, losing 39-8 at Meadow Lane.

Fly-half Tim Taylor gave Nottingham a 6-3 lead before pouncing on a defensive mistake to score the opening try.

After Pirates' Chris Morgan was sin-binned, Taylor added two penalties for a 19-3 lead at the break.

Nic Rouse and Charlie Davies added second-half tries for the hosts, Steve Winn getting a consolation for Pirates.
