Southern Nomads were knocked out of the Cheshire Plate on Saturday, losing 13-3 to league opponents Ashton-on-Mersey at King William's College. Al Corrin gave the Manx Shield winners a fifteenth minute lead with a well taken drop goal but Ashton scored a try on the stroke of half-time to lead 5-3. In the second-half Ashton kept up the pressure and it paid off when they crossed again to extend their lead. Nomads fought to the final whistle but a late penalty sealed it for Ashton. Meanwhile, in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division 4, Ramsey beat St Mary's Old Boys 20-8 at Gorsey Lane. Ramsey's Fintan Cummins opened the scoring with an intercepted try early on before Tynan Pritchard doubled their advantage. Cummins added the conversion to give the northerners a 12-0 lead but St Mary's hit back just before the interval to make it 12-8 at half-time. Henry Doran burrowed over for a third Ramsey try in the second-half to seal the win and a late drop goal from Cummins added the gloss. The result sees third placed Ramsey move to within two points on league leaders Linley.
