Vagabonds ladies draw with Leigh

Vagabonds Ladies

Vagabonds ladies continued their unbeaten run in North West Division Two with a 17-17 draw at Leigh on Saturday.

Captain Fran Hunt gave Vagas an early lead before Lizzie Lennon ran in a spectacular second from her own half.

Vagas then lost Cassie Watterson to a harsh yellow card and Leigh took full advantage to lead 12-10 at the break.

In the second half, Cat Beswick converted a second Hunt try but moments before the whistle Leigh scored a quick tap penalty to draw the sides level.

The result was tarnished when Vagabonds lost prop Taz Whittaker with a serious leg injury. It was 30 minutes before the game restarted and understandably concern for their team-mate was foremost in Vagabonds minds.

I've got far too much pride in the performance to dwell on the referee, but their were some highly dubious decisions

Vagabonds coach Darrin Cook

Vagas coach Darrin Cook said: "Our thoughts are with Taz, she's been absolutely fantastic for us this season."

Cook was full of praise for his side after the hard fought result but less impressed with some of the decisions.

"We were by far and away the best team on the day," he said.

"I've got far too much pride in the performance to dwell on the referee, but their were some highly dubious decisions.

We're really looking forward to the return fixture in a couple of weeks so we can set the records straight."

The draw is the first time Vagas have dropped points all season and the Manx side are still on track for promotion, sitting just two points behind Manchester.
