Esher director of rugby Mike Schmid was delighted with their 43-5 EDF Energy Trophy win over Mounts Bay.
The Surrey side, who are struggling in National One, will face London Scottish in round five after racing into a 14-0 lead after five minutes.
Schmid told BBC Southern Counties Radio: "It was a great result. We were worried about being a little rusty.
"It was a good win going into two important league games, great for confidence," he added.
Esher welcome rivals Newbury to Molesey Road on Saturday followed by a trip to bottom side Manchester.
Schmid admits they are must-win games: "I hate that expression but it's true on this occasion. Both teams are below us in the table and we have to make sure we get through these two games of the mini-season keeping them both below us,
"We've got to stay in this 12th position and we've got to try and close the gap on number 11. There are 11 professional teams ahead of us and we're the top of the non-professionals at the moment. We've got to keep there but we've got to put some pressure on those above us and try and close that gap if we can. They are very much key games for us."
